Residents of about 15 northwestern Indiana residences are back home after being evacuated because of a brush fire near Lake Michigan.
Portage Assistant Fire Chief Joe Calhoun told the Times of Munster that strong winds Saturday pushed the fire toward a cluster of homes in the Porter County town of Ogden Dunes about 10 miles east of Gary, prompting the evacuations.
At one point, flames shot 40 to 50 feet high.
Firefighters from 10 departments extinguished the blaze.
Ogden Dunes Police Chief Jim Reeder says no one was injured and no homes were damaged.
