Despite the accusations surrounding John J. Voglio, several board members of the charity believe John to be a man of good character.

John J Voglio, is a 65-year-old defrocked New York priest who was previously accused of sexually abusing a minor. He was initially ordained in 1987 before he got defrocked following the accusations surrounding him. The former priest is now ironically serving as the president of Mary F. Clancy Charities despite his past accusations.

John Harrington, another New York priest founded the Mary F Clancy Charities back in 2000. Interestingly, Harrington is also another priest who was also accused of sexually abusing a minor. This is based on a record compiled by the Archdiocese of New York.

The Archdiocese of New York first published a “List of Archdiocesan Clergy Credibly Accused of Sexual Abuse” in 2019. They have updated the list at least once in recent years. Despite this, the Archdiocese of New York never explained about the decision to remove Voglio from the priesthood.

Interestingly, Voglio doesn’t mention the fact that he is a former priest on the charity’s website. Moreover, since he was never charged with a crime, he was never required to register as a sex offender in Massachusetts, New York, nor in New Hampshire. These are both places where he had worked as a priest or brother in the past.

Mixed responses against John J Voglio and his role as president of the charity

John J Voglio has quite a mixed amount of responses from various people surrounding hsi works for the charity and his past accusations.

Madelaine Cavegn a director on the board running the charity stated:

Cavegn further added that Voglio was a devoted leader of the charity, and shared:

He’s like a missionary. He is very involved. Before we give out any grants, he conducts all the interviews with the schools”.

Meanwhile, another director on the board John Crapanzano, sahred:

the charity is very active” and Voglio “is very much involved in the day-to-day operations.”

However, not all are fans of Voglio’s works. David Clohessy, who is a sex abuse victims advocate at the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests stated:

Voglio should not be running this kind of charity”.

John J Voglio accused of sexually abusing a minor

Back in 2002, a Massachusetts man revealed to New Hampshire investigators that Voglio had sexually abused him 20 years earlier. The alleged incident occurred at a Salesian Brothers summer camp in the same state.

According to the accuser, he was only 12 years old when the abuse took place back in 1982. Paul Brodeur, a former investigator with the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office made a detailed report of the alleged incident. The report also revealed Voglio was serving as a Salesian Brother at the time of the alleged incident besides also working as a camp counselor.
