Police arrest University of Houston professor Andy Chang

The Houston Police Department Crimes Against Children Task Force on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, arrested Andy Chang, a University of Houston math professor. Police arrested the professor for possession of child p*rn. As of now, the authorities did not reveal the exact details surrounding the charges and the arrest. Notably, the arrest has caused a lot shock among community members as they seemingly revered the professor and his work.

ABC News were the first news to confirm the identity of the professor, stating that police ahd taken James Andy Chang into custody on the university campus for possession of child pornography. The new outlet also reported that Chang tutored various students in the area.

Meanwhile, despite confirming the arrest of a professor, the University declined to disclose the name of the educator. The University of Houston stated:

The University of Houston is aware of the charges…his employment as a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics has been suspended. Any further questions should be directed to the Houston Police Department or Harris County District Attorney’s Office.”

According to his LinkedIn profile, Andy Chang graduated with a Master’s and Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Houston. After graduating in 2014, he began working as a Lecturer in Mathematics at the same institution later in 2018. Prior to that, he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Science from the University of Houston back in 2011. Just last year, in 2022, Chang was promoted to Assistant Director of Graduate students at the University of Houston.
