War Thunder April Fools Day 2021

War Thunder is an incredibly popular free to play multiplayer title.

The game is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X and sees players split into teams to do battle in a range of vehicles across land, air and sea.

Developed by Gaijin Entertainment, the game features a range of modes including King of the Hill, Capture the Flag and much more.

One thing War Thunder is particularly known for is its elaborate April Fools Day pranks – here’s a history of those pranks and what to expect today.

War Thunder Pranks, A History.

As stated, War Thunder has held some incredibly April Fools Day events, to such an extent that fans look forward to it every single year.

Here’s a rundown on some of our favourite events that have been held in the game up until this point:

  • Little Ponies in the Sky – Setting the foundations early, War Thunder’s first April Fools Day event was called “Little Ponies in the Sky” and was focused on none other than My Little Pony.
Alongside the game’s five main nations (USSR, USA, Britain, Germany and Japan) players could select to play as Ponies.
These Ponies included a full range of weapons and were a fully functional army.
  • GAIJILLA! – Aptly named after the game’s developer, Gaijin Entertainment, the GAIJILLA event was its own standalone mode.
Although standard rules were in place, and players were still in competing teams, for part of the match, they had to put their differences aside to take down a giant Kaiju snail.
  • Unrealistic Battles – This one is simple but effective. All players were forced to use a special, inflatable tank which, rather than shooting real rounds, shot potatoes and carrots.
  • Hats off to You! – Another incredibly simple but equally as silly event. Players could earn special giant hats for their tanks.
  • Earth Thunder – What more could you ask for – in a special map, players aerial vehicles were replaced with UFOs for an alien focused battle.
  • Space Thunder – Continuing the theme from the previous year, this time, players were sent into space to do battle in special Space Combat Units.

War Thunder April Fools Day 2021

What can you expect? Well, as you can see above, Gaijin Entertainment pulls no punches!

Year after year the developers one-up themselves, so although it’s not been announced just yet, you can be sure there’s going to be something big.

This year, they’ve gone with the theme “Warfare 2077” *ahem Cyberpunk*.

This event answers the question “What will military technology be like in the future?” – The Answer? “laser tanks, smart missiles, military drones and optical camouflage!”
