UP subdivisions/crew change map? - Trains Magazine

UP time tables are regional (area) issues.  They don't necessarily line up for any specific Service Unit, Divisions on most other railroads.  I work on the Council Bluffs Service Unit and primarily work with the Iowa Area and Council Bluffs Area time tables.  Depending what assignment I'm working, I may also have to have a Chicago Area, Twin Cities Area, and Kansas City Area time table.

My seniority district is the old CNW Southern 3.  Home terminals for road crews are (all in Iowa): Clinton, Boone, Des Moines, Eagle Grove, Fort Dodge, and Mason City.  Cedar Rapids (Beverly) has a couple of yards with assigned switch engines but is not home to any road jobs.  Marshalltown has a yard with assigned switch engines and home for a couple of local freights.

Sioux City, IA and Council Bluffs, IA are also Home terminals.  CB is on the Nebraska (original UP) district. Sioux City I believe is part of the Central 5 Minnesota/Twin Cities.  Aside from the Twin Cities terminals, St James, MN and possibly Worthington, MN are crew changes, but may only be away from home terminals. I don't know a lot about our neighbor to the north.

I know they are hiring, but don't know which locations are listed as having openings.  Just because you hire out at a specific location, doesn't mean you will be working that location at first.  I hired out in Boone and spent half of my first few years working out of Des Moines. Also when you are the youngest in seniority, if they are shorthanded somewhere, they can force the junior person(s) to that terminal.

If you might want to come to Iowa and have to move, I would suggest moving to somewhere around the Ames area (central Iowa).  That would put you reasonably close to the majority of terminals your seniority (at first) would allow you to hold on a regular basis.
