Ubisoft’s Upcoming Metroidvania, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Shows off Gameplay in New World Trailer

Ubisoft surprised everyone when it announced the Metroidvania-style platform adventure title Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown at the Summer Game Fest last year. The game is developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, the studio behind Rayman Legends, and is set to release on January 18, 2024, with a demo on January 11.

As the game inches closer to its release, fans are excited to see what it has in store for them. The developer has now released a new world trailer for the game, showing off gameplay and giving a deeper look into the rich and mythical world of the game.

The Lost Crown is the first game in the popular franchise from Ubisoft in well over a decade and is a sidescroller rather than the traditional third-person title. The initial announcement of the game did not get the reception the developers had expected and faced backlash. Fans of the franchise criticized the game for not having the actual Prince in it, and many even disliked the song used in the announcement trailer. However, some early previews were received pretty well by the fans.

A new trailer has now been released for players, providing a deeper look at the in-game world and gameplay. The trailer shows the mythical Persian world, where players can manipulate time and space. The game boasts amazing artwork, fun gameplay, and overall aesthetic looks. Players can zoom in on their characters during attacks to see their reactions, somersault using horizontal flag poles where you can choose direction, jump off walls but remember to dodge spikes, and more.

There are several powers that players will be able to unlock and use, such as the air dash, to go past obstacles like spiked rollers and defeat zombie soldiers. Hyrcanian Forest has much more for players, such as visually appealing locations, boss battles with various creatures, monsters, and banished gods, and upon defeating them, players can unlock more skills, abilities, and weapons such as bows and arrows.

There are also juggles, air attacks, and several other powerful moves that can be charged as players attack enemies and deal damage. The map and level design also seem very advanced, and there might be side quests as well for players to explore the game world. Overall, the gameplay and the in-game world look very interesting, but it remains to be seen how players respond to them.

The story trailer was also released recently, revealing that players will play as Sargon, one of the warriors called Immortals who is tasked with saving the prince by the queen. Sargon leaves with other immortals to rescue the prince and says that “time no longer flows like a river.”

The line is a reference to the prince’s dialogue: “Most people think time is like a river that flows swift and sure in one direction” in Sands of Time. The trailer also revealed that Vahram turns against Sargon, and then he has to fight against all the other immortals, making up for some epic boss battles.

Players will be able to dash, juggle, and somersault as they go on the mission to save the prince.

The game will also be of fair length, as the developers have revealed that The Lost Crown will take around 25 hours to beat. 25 hours in platform adventure titles is not anything unusual, but this makes one wonder what the game could comprise that would take players so long to complete it.

It is also not clear if the above-mentioned length is for the main story or a completionist run with side quests, optional objectives, collectibles, and more. Although the playthrough time will depend on each player’s skill and how much they want to explore, the game seems to have plenty of content.
