Thicker, More Defined, or Straight Across: Here's How to Get the Exact Eyebrows You Want

__Get the Shape:__First things first: Give the tweezers a rest. In fact, L.A. eyebrow artist Kristie Streicher won't even see new clients unless they've let their brows grow out for

at least two months. Whether you're in a grow-out phase or naturally full, pluck only to clean up a few wayward hairs.

Fill Them In: When adding color, use your brows' natural thickness at the inner corners as a guide for how wide you can make the entire brow. Start with a pencil that matches your natural brow color. "Begin filling the center of the brow using light pressure and a short back-and-forth motion; work outward," says Maybelline New York brow artist Maribeth Madron. "Finish by penciling in the inner corner." Blend with a spoolie brush, then apply brow powder in a slightly lighter color, following the same pattern (combining different shades will add texture). Set with brow gel. For those with naturally full brows, pencil in where you need definition. Brush up the sprouty hairs at the inner corners with a clear gel.

Goal: Make Your Arches Defined

This sleekly groomed look—Hollywood's signature look—is "the black dress of brows," says Garcia. The key to keeping the tailored shape modern, as often seen on Beyonce, and Kim Kardashian West, is to avoid penciling it all in (way too harsh, way too nineties).

Get the Shape: Creating this arch yourself requires precision; the natural peak should align with the outer white of your eye. (If you're unsure, seek a pro for help.) Once you've got your shape, you can maintain the silhouette at home with tweezers; limit your plucking sessions to once a week.

Fill Them In: To build the arch with makeup, look for a soft wax-based pencil (we like Maybelline New York Eye Studio Brow Precise Shaping Pencil, $7, target.com). "Add pigment to the top of the natural arch, fill in any holes, then add a bit to the outer upper half of the brow tail to give you that lift," explains Madron. Don't extend the tail too dramatically, though; it will make your eye look droopy. "Then add a few strokes at the lower inner corners. Having that bit of depth there will make the arch look more pronounced." Finally, go in with a highlighting pencil or pale matte shadow under and above the arch to further define its shape and accent your brow bone.
