The Dos And Don'ts Of Wearing Florals In Winter

DON'T: Send mixed signals. If it's chilly enough to be wearing a scarf, a jacket, and closed-toe shoes, it's probably not the right time to be rocking a white floral print with bare legs. This outfit suffers from a total identity crisis--either ditch the top half in favor of a tank top and swap out the pumps for flat sandals, or choose a more substantial floral print (a black background like Scarlett's, above, has more heft) and some cold-weather accessories.

DO: Cover up! Layers are a smart way to keep warm and a visual cue that you're aware of what season it is. Kelly Osbourne's opaque black tights and fitted jacket make her green dress January-appropriate, while putting a black turtleneck underneath a more spring-like dress can have a similar effect. Adding different textures into the mix--chunky wool cardigans, corduroy blazers, lace tights--can also go a long way in winterizing your rose or daffodil prints.
