Surviving victims of deadly kidnapping in Mexico talk about escape – WSOC TV

Eric Williams and Latavia McGee, both of South Carolina, were among four people who traveled to Mexico in March for a cosmetic medical procedure.

They told CNN’s Anderson Cooper Tuesday night that soon after they crossed the border, they drove down the wrong street.

That was when members of the cartel showed up with guns and Williams said that Shaheed Woodard and Zindell Brown got out and ran.

Williams also got out and was shot in the leg before the cartel loaded all of them in a truck.

“We rode 10, maybe 15 minutes to the spot where they were taking us to interrogate us and that’s when Shaheed said ‘I love y’all. I’m gone.’ And he died right there,” Williams said.

Brown also later died from his injuries.

Williams and McGee survived the ordeal and said they were eventually taken to a shack where a kidnapper spoke to them.

That cartel member snuck them out, hid them under the bodies of their friends, and drove around for several hours until their escape.

McGee and Williams said they knew they had to escape so they could give their friends a proper burial and see their families.
