Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is just days away from release and discussions are underway if the game will join the list of best superhero games of all time.
As discussions continue, social poker platform Replay Poker has released a list of the highest-rated superhero video games of all time. The list was created by analyzing ratings from critics and gamers. The study used data collected on the sixty most popular and best-selling superhero titles with IMDB ratings, Metacritic user ratings, and Metascore to rank the top 10 superhero games ever.
1. Batman: Arkham City
Batman: Arkham City was released in 2011 and delivered a top-notch game in the Arkham trilogy. Batman returns to Gotham and takes on villains like Penguin, Mister Freeze, and Joker in the game. Players could choose how they wanted to experience the story in Arkham City and the improvements in combat mechanics made it more fun.
Batman: Arkham City secured first place in the list of best superhero video games and ranked number one in the study with an excellent Metascore of 94, Metacritic user rating of 8.8, and IMDB rating of 9.4.
2. Batman: Arkham Asylum
Arkham Asylum was released in 2009 and is one of the best superhero video games that changed the superhero games genre forever. The game featured rhythmic combat, iconic combo moves, and incredible gadgets for players to use.
Batman: Arkham Asylum ranked second in the best superhero video games list with an incredible Metascore of 92, a Metacritic user rating of 8.8, and an IMDB rating of 9.1.

4. Batman: Arkham Knight
Arkham Knight is the last game in the Batman: Arkham trilogy. The game introduced Batmobile for the first time in the franchise and also brought Dual Play. Dual Play allowed players to play as Robin, Nightwing, or Catwoman in some parts of the game.
Batman: Arkham Knight continued the immense success of the series and was very well received by the community. It secured the fourth-best superhero video game spot with a Metascore of 87 and a Metacritic user rating of 8.0.
5. Spider-Man (2000)
When Spider-Man (2000) was released, superhero video games were not as popular and in demand as they are today like Spider-Man 2, and still, the game was praised by fans and critics alike. The game received appreciation for its graphics and sound, gameplay that had elements of combat, and web shooting that filled the game with action and adventure.
Fans and critics were both favorable of Spider-Man (2000) and it landed the fifth spot in the best superhero games with a Metascore of 87 and a Metacritic user rating of 8.6.
6. inFamous 2
Sucker Punch did not disappoint gamers with the second game in the inFamous franchise. The game was released in 2011 and players again played as Cole MacGrath. Players explore the open world, engage in fights with enemies, and defeat them using electrical abilities.
inFamous 2 followed suit as the first game in popularity and an incredible gaming experience and boasts a Metascore of 83 and Metacritic user ratings of 8.3.

Injustice 2 featured various DC superheroes and supervillains engaging in brutal fights and letting players play in multiplayer or solo.
The game later also received new characters, gear customization options, daily events, and improved combat mechanics. Injustice 2 has a Metascore of 87 and an IMDB rating of 8.5 with a Metacritic user rating of 8.
9. Ultimate Spider-Man
Ultimate Spider-Man is one of the most popular Spider-Man games. The game lets players control both Spider-Man and Venom. The game is seen as the perfect culmination of comic books and video games. The game was released in 2005 and for almost all platforms that could play a game.
Ultimate Spider-Man features comic-book art style and an immersive storyline of the Ultimate Spider-Man comics and players see Spider-Man and Venom cross paths. The game secured the ninth spot in best superhero games with a 9.3 Metacritic user rating and although it has a rather lower Metascore of 78 and an IMDB rating of 7.8, players have loved the game.
10. inFamous
Sucker Punch launched inFamous back in 2009 for PlayStation 3 and delivered a compelling and original story that resonated with players all over the world. The game introduced Cole MacGrath to the players who is a bike messenger given the power of electrokinesis after he got caught up in an explosion.
The game featured a morality system and fast-paced exciting combat and was released as an exclusive for PS3. The game was a massive success and kicked off a major series for the developers. inFamous secured its place in the top 10 superhero games with a Metascore of 85 and a Metacritic user rating of 8.2.
Will Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Make Its Place in the List?
Ash Keene, Operations Manager at Replay Poker, commented on the new study stating, “Despite the popularity of Disney’s MCU, Sony’s Spider-Man and Warner Bros’ Batman still dominate the video game landscape more than any other, with both characters each taking up six spots in the overall study.” He further added:
As developers Insomniac Games and Rocksteady Studios prepare to launch new gaming titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League over the coming years, it will be interesting to see if Batman: Arkham City will be dethroned as the highest-rated superhero game of all time.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 release is just a matter of a few days and seeing the hype around the game and all it brings for gamers, it is possible that Spider-Man 2 will surely make its place in this list and likely in the top 3. Players are already considering the game as a strong contender for Game of the Year and there’s no reason why Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 could not be one.
