Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ becomes most streamed Afrobeats song in US history

Divine Ikubor, also known as Rema, a Nigerian afrobeats artist, has accomplished another milestone as his hit song ‘Calm Down’ becomes the most streamed African song in the history of the United States.

‘Calm Down’ beat CKay’s ‘Love Nwantiti’ to the top spot.

Chart Data, an American music data compilation website, announced this on Friday.

According to the analytics firm, “@heisrema’s ‘Calm Down’ is now the #1 most streamed Afrobeats song in US history, surpassing @ckay_yo’s ‘Love nwantiti’.”

On Spotify and YouTube, both versions of the song have had over 500 million streams.

Calm Down became the highest-peaking Nigerian single on the US Billboard Hot 100 after a remix with American diva Selena Gomez, which reached number three.

The song is also the first African song to reach number one on the American radio chart.
