Reader's Dilemma: "Do I Have to Go to the Bridal Shower If My Boyfriend's a Groomsman?"

Plus, if your boyfriend is in the wedding party, you may not have too many people to hang out with at the wedding while your guy is off taking photos or doing other groomsmanly things. The bridal shower is your chance to meet some more wedding guests. Who knows? You may even make a new friend.

So call up the other groomsman's girlfriend, see if she's going (as long as you're pretty positive she's invited as well), and carpool, if possible, to make that long drive more bearable. You can even go in on a wedding registry gift together so you don't have to spend quite so much on the present.

But if you're just not feeling it, feel free to RSVP no. In that case, I'd recommend shooting the bride an e-mail (don't mention the date or location in case the bridal shower is a surprise!) where you tell her how flattered you were to be invited, how sorry you are that you can't make it, and how excited you are for her wedding. That way, you're also making an effort to be friendly.
