Pokémon TCG Live’s global open beta and soft launch delayed to 2022

Pokémon TCG Live’s mobile soft launch and global beta have been delayed to 2022. The game’s beta and soft launch were previously scheduled to come out this year.

The game was originally planned to soft launch on mobile in Canada and enter open beta on desktop for global audiences. In a tweet, the official Pokémon TCG account said the reason for the delay is “to provide Trainers with a more polished experience.” The tweet also promises that more information on the testing period and the game’s full launch will be shared “soon.”

To provide Trainers with a more polished experience, the Pokémon TCG Live mobile soft launch in Canada, and global open beta for desktop, have been shifted to 2022.

Ahead of the game’s launch, some Pokémon TCG products were packaged with code cards that displayed Pokémon TCG Live branding. The Pokémon TCG account assured fans that these code cards are still redeemable in Pokémon TCG Online, though there’s no word as to whether the codes will still be redeemable in Pokémon TCG Live if they’ve already been used in Online.

Pokemon TCG Live is the successor to Pokemon TCG Online, a digital version of the popular Pokémon trading card game. TCG Live will improve on the existing app and will allow players to play the TCG with others on PC or mobile. Though players can play against each other, there will be no in-game trading options, which is an odd omission for a trading card game. TCG Online players will be able to transfer much of their data from the old game to TCG Live to streamline the upgrade.
