N-scale Ballast - Model Railroader Magazine

Hi Tim,

Just make sure your glue is water-based (PVA) not like the waterproof stuff I used way back.  Didn't fancy what I'd done and tried to soak it so I could lift it, boy what a mess.

I'd do a test piece, paint under the track to seal the board and roadbed same colour as ballast (near enough).  Pin some track down lightly, do about 6", if you like it, keep going and do a couple of feet, then leave it overnight to dry off and have another look.

If not, lift the pins, soak with enough to loosen the ballast so you can slide a thin knife under, clean the track off and have another go.  It took me about 3 times to get it how I wanted.

Be in touch.

pick.

PS Points (switches) are a different matter, be careful round the blades and tie bar checking for free movement every 30mins or so till it's started to go off.
