Methodist Prelate, Samuel Kanu regains freedom

Abducted Methodist Prelate, Samuel Kanu has regained his freedom.

The Prelate was released alongside two other persons on Monday.

He was kidnapped on Sunday alongside his chaplain and the Methodist Bishop of Owerri, Rt. Rev. Dennis Mark, in the Umu Nneochi Local Government Area of Abia State.

The kidnappers had demanded N100 million ransom for the release of the victims.

With details around the release still sketchy, it is unclear if any ransom was paid.

Hours after news of the release, a video circulated showing Samuel Kanu celebrating with church members.

Reacting to the release of the Prelate, the Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu said the quick release within 24 hours was a result of the grace of God and a “coordinated response from security agencies in Abia State.”
