Man punches kangaroo in the face to save hunting dog

A man's close-quarters encounter with a large male kangaroo in the Australian Outback is going viral six months later.

AUSTRALIAN OUTBACK (NBC) - A man's close-quarters encounter with a large male kangaroo in the Australian Outback is going viral six months later.

A video released by Greg Bloom and posted on ViralHog shows the incredible "Man vs. Kangaroo" showdown from this past June.

According to Bloom's recap on ViralHog's YouTube video, a group of hunters were helping a young cancer patient with his final wish of going boar hunting in the Outback when one of their dogs got into a tussle with a large male kangaroo - also called a buck.

The buck had a strong grip on the dog's protective gear, practically holding the dog in a headlock. One of the members of the hunting party, identified on Viral Hog as "Greg," jumped from the vehicle and raced toward the dog and kangaroo.

The dog wriggled free from the buck's hold as the large animal turned its attention to the hunter. After sizing each other up for a moment, the man throws a right hook that lands squarely on the kangaroo's jaw.

After rearing back from the punch, the buck stares at the man as the hunter calls for the dogs to get back to the truck.

The stunned buck then decided hopping off into the brush was the best course of action.

The dog was not hurt in the encounter.
