Long term house rental Spain
One of the best value memberships can be had at Font Del Llop, but the course itself is quite remote - they're currently building around the course but it's very much in the early stages. Plus, you would have to drive quite a way to get to it, if you wanted to also have a decent expat golf community around you.
If you want to live right in the heart of a busy community, and have a golf course on your doorstep, Villamartin is a great shout - there is a plaza which is full of bars and restaraunts and 100 metres up the road is the golf club, there are also some other great courses nearby, Las Ramblas, Las Colinas, La Finca etc
In order to be a member here, you need to buy a share - which ain't cheap, but once you've bought it, you can then get a membership for around 850 euros, the share also allows for one family member to gain membership as well. Of course, if you decide to leave, you can sell the share to recover your outlay.
If you're not as bothered about the standard of the course, then there is one near us callled La Marquesa, which is in the urbanisation of Ciudad Quesada - again, plenty of expats here - it's about 5 minutes from where we live, so nice easy access to the airport - about 5 minutes from the AP7 motorway which lins straight up to Alicante Elche airport. I have a mate who plays here - he bought a regular weekly tee time - which I think is 12.30 every Friday, and it cost about £850 euros, so if he plays every week, it's about 18 euros a round. Although the course isn't as good as some of the others, it is flat, and walkable - something to consider when it gets warmer - if you don't want to be paying out for buggiesevery week.
Personally, I'd always lean towards playing society golf, most will be charging 50 to 60 euros a round with buggy, you get the varierty of playing lots of different course, and you get an instant group of like minded blokes and ladies to socialise with after each round, but that's juts my personal preference.
