Live from the HGTV Lodge at CMA Fest--Vanilla Ice Puts a Country Spin on "Ice Ice Baby" and Talks About Co-Starring in That's My Boy With Pal Adam Sandler!
Glamour: And now you're about to star in a hit summer movie. Tell us about your role in That's My Boy!
VI: It's hilarious. You can watch it over and over. I play Adam Sandler's brother. I've had a few cameos in things but this is a full role. Adam was just amazing to work with and so down to earth. His office is a mess--he's got kids' toys every where. I felt right at home and I made a really good friend. We talk every other day. We play basketball together and hang out. He's just like his characters Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison.
Glamour: You're so down to earth too. Did you ever have an ego?
VI: I lost it a long time ago. I just like to shake a hand and make a friend. That's my motto. And during the early days, it went so fast that I didn't have time to absorb and enjoy it to get an ego. Of course I had a weekend that lasted three years but other than that, we are who are because of who we were--positives, negatives and everything.
Glamour: What kind of music are you obsessed with these days?
VI: I like all music but it's the mood with me. Lately, it's been a lot of Frank Sinatra. I still love hip hop and country. And I like that heavy stuff like Slipnknot because I ride motorcross. I get out on all my trail and I'm like 'rah rah rah!' But if I'm being romantic with my wife it's going to Marvin Gaye. It's all about the mood.
Glamour: Being that you're hosting a show on DIY Network, what type of home design are you obsessed with?
VI: I change on my design. I'm transitional. I like the gilded age, real elegant and lots of crown molding. But it's hard to put all the state of the art technology in and still incorporate that. It's a challenge for me. But the bigger the challenge the more rewarding it is in the end.
Just me and Vanilla Ice hanging in the Lodge!
Do you watch The Vanilla Ice Project? What are your "Ice Ice Baby" memories? And what do you think of the country-fied version too? PS--will you check out Vanilla Ice in That's My Boy opening on June 15th too?
