Just Like Jujutsu Kaisen Creator, Even Gojo Satoru’s Voice Actor Hates the Blue-Eyed Sorcerer – Shares Same Favorite Character as Gege Akutami

Gojo Satoru in Jujutsu Kaisen won a loyal fanbase with his god complex, power, and captivating looks. A typical ‘bad boy’ in a Shonen, Satoru was one the most popular characters in 2021 as revealed by a LINE Research in 2021. The master of the Six Eyes Technique even overshadowed Yuji Itadori, the main protagonist of the series.

Unfortunately, the nemesis of a manga character is the writer itself. He can beef up his favorite heroes and villains while eliminating those that he dislikes. After receiving much backlash for his hateful comments on Gojo Satoru, Jujutsu Kaisen writer Gege Akutami decided to unceremoniously kill him off in Chapter 236 at the hands of Sakuna.

While Akutami expressed public disdain for the blue-eyed sorcerer, Japanese voice actor Yuichi Nakamura, who voiced Gojo Satoru in Jujutsu Kaisen, also wasn’t fond of the character. His reasons were somewhat justified.

Voice Actor Yuichi Nakamura expressed disapproval for the character of Gojo Satoru in Jujutsu Kaisen

Yuichi Nakamura has voiced memorable characters from My Hero Academia, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Bleach. He brought the same intensity and passion to portray Gojo Satoru’s strong personality in Jujutsu Kaisen with his deep and menacing voice.

Back when Satoru was alive and making waves among otaku fans on social media with his insane powers, Nakmura broke down his view of the jujutsu sorcerer. The 43-year-old claimed that he couldn’t understand the hype of the blue-eyed sorcerer during an interview with Oricon News. Such a statement came as a shock to many fans.

“I think that charm comes from a third-person point of view… If you ask someone who says, “I really like Gojo,” “What do you like about it?”, they’ll say, “Because he’s strong.” If that were the case, anything would be a good thing… I think it’s a good thing that there is a [fan] reaction, but the reason doesn’t feel right to me.”

Nakamura understood that Satoru was a complex character, who was neither the classic ‘quiet’ nor ‘strong’ character in a Shonen, but something in between. His voice expressions needed to be changed during battles and when he was fooling around. According to him, most fans didn’t actually know the reason why they loved the proud character whom Nakamura termed to be a “really difficult person to put into words.”

Both Gege Akutami and Yuichi Nakamura have the same favorite when it comes to a particular character in Jujutsu Kaisen. Akutami initially liked Sakuna (no wonder he eliminated Gojo with him) but later started liking Kento Nanami – the mentor to Yuji Itadori.

Nanami is Akutami’s favorite because it is the only character he managed to create on his own and develop, as revealed during an interview with Culture magazine. He also revealed that the character of Gojo Satoru was born out of ‘concept’ rather than ‘visual concept’ and he wanted him to represent the paroxysm of force.

Akutami stirred controversy when he berated the ones who voted for Gojo in the Jump Festa poll rather than supporting Kento. He is under fire once again – this time for giving Nanami a heroic death in the Shibuya arc while unceremoniously eliminating Gojo Satoru in the most recent chapter.

Meanwhile, Yuichi Nakamura loves Nanami Kento because he thought his “human side was really cool.” He couldn’t elaborate on the character but found it to be something that was not perfect, i.e., more human and realistic than others.
