Jujutsu, CSM, And Overworked Animators

Animation studio Mappa, celebrating its 10th anniversary, is holding its Mappa Stage event this June 27 in Japan – with stage events and announcements for both already announced anime series such as Chainsaw Man, and brand new projects.

We should most notably hear more about Attack on Titan Final Season and the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie adaptation.

Where to watch the Mappa 10th anniversary event

The event starts on June 27 at 2 AM EST and will last at least until 7:30 AM EST. Click here for other time zones, and here’s a countdown. A live stream of the event is on YouTube:

Jujutsu Kaisen: Junya Enoki (Yuji Itadori), Yuma Uchida (Megumi Fushiguro), Asami Seto (Nobara Kugisaki), animation producer Keisuke Seshimo

Attack on Titan the Final Season: Yuki Kaji (Eren), Marina Inoue (Armin), Ayane Sakura (Gabi), director Yuichiro Hayashi, composer Kohta Yamamoto

Chainsaw Man: This stage event showcase will include a brand new trailer for the CSM anime adaptation, and will be presented by Mappa’s president Manabu Otsuka for some reason. As far as I know this is pretty rare for reveals, and shows how much the studio is betting on CSM. Otsuka’s presence was confirmed by Shueisha and CSM manga editor Lin Shihei, who’ll also be on stage:

今週末日曜日のMAPPA STAGEさんに出ます。

大塚さんと『チェンソーマン』に関してのお話しします。

宜しければ是非に〜✨

Back in early 2021, Mappa also announced on its official site it has at least two unannounced anime projects. They will be revealed during this event.

Personally speaking, I’m quite impressed Studio Mappa is already ten years old, as I remember like yesterday when it was founded. I’m not gonna teach you anything by saying that the overall conditions of animators in the industry have worsened in these ten years.

Mappa has been under the spotlight several times in the past for being an exploitative company. And the Covid-19 pandemic only aggravated problems that have been ongoing for decades. The industry definitely needs a fresh start, free of the anime production committee system, free of studios underpaying and overworking their animators.
