Jared Leto Reveals Why He Scaled the Empire State Building That Sliced His Hand – It Wasn’t Method Acting for King Kong Role
Jared Leto has been known to do some very eccentric things to promote his films. The actor is notorious for his methods of preparation, which usually involve going to extreme lengths to get into the character.
While it might seem that the Suicide Squad actor limits his behaviors around film sets and character studies, that might not be the case entirely. For example, Leto seemingly climbed the Empire State Building, but it had nothing to do with any King Kong portrayal. The actor seems to have been promoting something completely different!
Jared Leto was excited, but not nervous
Speaking to the Today, the actor spoke about what he felt like before he began his ascent. The Morbius actor said:
“I was more excited than nervous, to tell you the truth. But I have to be honest, it was very, very hard. It was very hard. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Just the endurance that it took, the stamina that it took, and it was very sharp.”
Leto seems to have underestimated the endeavor, requiring a tremendous amount of stamina and endurance. After all, such feats of strength are only relegated to kaiju such as King Kong. However, it is important to think about what caused the actor to attempt such a feat.
It turns out that the actor, according to Vanity Fair, was executing the stunt to promote his band, 30 Seconds to Mars’ world tour. This tour will take the artist and his bandmates around the world in 2024 between March and September.
Jared Leto got very intense with his Suicide Squad preparation
While making an appearance on the Beats 1 radio show, Will Smith revealed (via Complex) that despite working with the actor on Suicide Squad for 6 months, he had not met Leto. The Bright actor said:
“I’ve never actually met Jared Leto. We worked together for 6 months and we’ve never exchanged a word outside of ‘Action!’ and ‘Cut!’ I literally have not met him yet. So, the first time I see him will be ‘Hey, Jared. What’s up?’ He was all in on the Joker.”
Leto sent personalized letters to each member of the Suicide Squad cast, such as a letter with Bullets for Smith (who played Deadshot), and a Love Letter with a live rat for Margot Robbie (who played the Joker’s victimized girlfriend, Harley Quinn). Apart from such eccentricities, the actor also allegedly sent out a dead hog with a video to the Suicide Squad set, shocking his fellow actors, but also motivating them to think about their characters more deeply.
