How To Reach The Overgrown Tunnel

A section of the map depicting the location of Auntie Ethel in Baldur's Gate 3

The Overgrown Tunnel is a dungeon located in the Sunlit Wetlands, the area of Auntie Ethel's home in the Underdark. It can be accessed via what is known as the Riverside Teahouse. This area is divided into three different areas, each of which will be explained in depth.

The Entrance Gallery

Once you enter into the Overgrown Tunnel, you will be in the Entrance Gallery. In this room, you will find an Elf who is screaming about needing to leave and not to look. Upon further inspection, you find out that the thing it is warning you about is something called "Gnarled Door" with a face on it at the end of the room. This door is the victim of the Hag, and if you intimidate it, it will let you through. If you fail that intimidation, look to the right of the wooden door, you will find a Whispering Mask. Put this mask on and quickly go through the wooden door. Then you can take the mask off.

You will want to ensure you remove the Whispering Mask. If you do not, you can potentially attack your party members or vice versa.

The Overgrown Tunnel

After you pass through the Entrance Gallery, you will be back into the area known as the Overgrown Tunnel. In this first area, you will see four other victims who are wearing the Whispering Masks. If your party has them on, you can pass without fighting these enemies. However, your party could attack you and cause a fight anyway. It is better to just fight them without masks. After this, you will be in a descent that is covered in traps. You will want to have Misty Step and Feather Fall to ensure that you are able to make it through easily.

Here's a breakdown of those traps:

  1. Ruptured Stones - These are rocks that will emit Noxious Fumes if you get too close to them. In order to avoid these, you can drop items on top of them and block them or try burning the Noxious Fumes (this may or may not work).
  2. Peculiar Flowers - Invisible flowers only seen with a Perception Check. If you get too close, they will explode.
