How to Find Deathroot For Gurranq Beast Clergyman in Elden Ring

Here’s our guide to help your find and use Deathroot in Elden Ring, and exchange it with Gurranq Beast Clergyman for some exclusive incantations and items.

What is Deathroot in Elden Ring?

Elden Ring is the latest game by FromSoftware, directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, and just like in past Souls games it often includes cryptic items, and you might not always figure out how to get or use them. Deathroot is one of the many Key Items in the game that fall in this category, and it’s actually a trade item, found in treasure chests after defeating certain bosses.

Deathroot locations & how to get

  • After defeating Red Wolf of the Champion, inside Gelmir Hero’s Grave, high above the center part of the Mt. Gelmir region.
  • After defeating the Black Knife Assassin in the Deathtouched Catacombs in Limgrave, which is at the west of Saintsbridge.
  • In the Black Knife Catacombs in the northeast part of the Liurna of the Lake region. Defeat the Cemetery Shade boss in there to access the chest.
  • After defeating the Stray Mimic Tear near the Hidden Path to the Haligtree Site of Grace.

Moreover, all of the Tibia Mariner bosses in Elden Ring also drop a Deathroot after you defeat them. Probably the first Tibia Mariner you’ll encounter and the easiest one to reach is in the Summonwater Village, located north of the Limgrave starter region. There are at least three more Tibia Mariner bosses in the game you can search for.

Tibia Mariner bosses locations

  • At a pond located south of Artist’s Shack in Liurnia of the Lakes.
  • Inside Wyndham Catacombs in Wyndham Ruins.
  • In Stargazer Ruins.

How to exchange Deathroot with Gurranq

You can give your Deathroots to Gurranq the Beast Clergyman for some unique items, most notably spells and incantations. Gurranq can be found in Bestial Sanctum in the northeast of Caelid.

Elden Ring is a celebration of everything FromSoftware did these past decades, and that also means the game has a ton of cryptic items you can exchange with special NPCs or merchants for exclusive rewards. Besides the Deathroot, there are many items like this in Elden Ring. It’s up to the player to experiment, talk with every NPC, and see what happens.

Elden Ring is currently one of the highest-rated games of all time on Metacritic, proving that good game design helps many enjoy these cryptic elements.
