Guide for Ghostscape (WP) - Story walkthrough

Take note that if you wish to earn the "Speedy Solver" achievement, then you'll need to complete the main storyline in less than 20 minutes.

Another important note before we start. The "Exorcist" achievement is bugged.
It requires you to photograph all of the paranormal activity in the game, including 9 orbs, but there are actually 10 orbs in the game. If you collect all 10 orbs before you've collected the other paranormal activity then the achievement will not unlock. To avoid this, make sure you only collect 9 orbs. Further details can be read below. This bug appears to have been fixed.

We start at the entrance of the house. To the bottom right of the screen you'll find a crowbar. Pick it up and equip it. Now press on the pieces of wood that have boarded up the front door. Why would it be boarded up? Maybe this house is haunted? Enter the door to find out...

We'll now be in the Entry Hall. In this room you'll need to photograph some items, so go ahead and equip your camera. Now, click on the following items:

Chair (1/5)
Diary Page (1/5)
Ghost (1/6)
Orb (1/9)
Picture (1/10)

Photographing the above Ghost will earn you your first achievement:

Now take the door to the right which leads to the Dining Room. Here, photograph the following:

Chair (2/5)
Cup (1/5)
Ghostly Message (1/5)
Orb (2/9)
Pictures (there are 2 here - 2 & 3/10)

Enter the door in the middle of your screen which will take you to the Kitchen. Once here, snap the following objects:

Diary Page (2/5)
Ghostly Message (2/5)
Ghost (2/6)
Orb (3/9)

Now pick up the set of ladders and head back to the Entry Hall. Once there, go through the door on the left. You will now be in the Hall. Again, photograph the following:

Chair (3/5)
Cup (2/5)
Ghostly Message (3/5)
Orb (4/9)
Picture (there are 3 here - 4, 5 & 6/10)

Now enter the door to the right. This leads to the Study. You'll need to photograph the following items:

Ghost (3/6)
Ghostly Message (4/5)
Book of Spirits (Occult Item 1/8)
Picture (7/10)

If you look to the lower right of the screen, you'll notice a vent that can be broken with a crowbar. This will now allow entrance to the Observation Room. Once you enter, you'll earn the following achievement:

You'll need to solve a puzzle when you're in this room which will earn you another Occult item. The puzzle is a simple spot-the-difference which shouldn't test your mental capabilities too much. Once you've solved it, you'll gain the Pentagram. (Occult Item 2/8)

Now, back out until you're back at the Entry Hall and head up the stairs. Once in the Landing, photograph the following items:

Ghostly Message (5/5)
Orb (5/9)
Picture (8/10)

As soon as you've photographed the ghostly message you should earn the "The Medium" achievement:

Still in the landing, use the crowbar on the small vent to the left of the screen and enter it. This will grant you access to the Illumination room and another achievement:

The puzzle in this room will really test your mathematical ability... Counting shapes! Yes, correctly count the number of shapes to receive the Capstone (Occult Item 3/8)

Go back to the landing and head into the door on the right. Congratulations, you'll now be locked in the bathroom. Never fear, as escape hasn't been so easy since Houdini's time. See that bright green key on the table? Pick it up and freedom is abound. Make sure you pick up the red candle to the right of the room before you leave though. You'll also notice another vent. Entering it will earn you:

You're now in the Monkey Room. The puzzle requires you to spin a wheel and hit the tick 5 times. It's a bit fiddly, but again, not too taxing. Once done, another Occult item will be yours, the Monkey Paw (Occult Item 4/8)

Now go back to the Landing and enter the second door to the right and into the Bedroom. In here, photograph the following:

Orb (6/9)

You can put your camera down now and pick up the piece of paper on the floor to the right which handily tells you the combination to the all of the locked chests in the house. So, you can either put your new-found symbology skills to the test and decipher the code for the lock yourself, or simply enter the following code:

6294

This chests holds the key to the Cellar and a red candle, so pick both of them up and head back to the Entry Hall.

Now that we have the shiny key to the Cellar door, let's put our Nyctophobia behind us and enter the Cellar (the door underneath the Deer head). Once inside, whip out your camera and photograph the Remains that lay on the floor (1/7). Open the chest in the corner with the following combination:

7832

This will reveal the Bedroom key and another red candle.

Now, crowbar the planks in the centre and go through the newly-revealed hole which leads to the Cavern. In there, photograph/collect the following:

Diary Page (3/5)
Orb (7/9)
Remains (there are 2 of these - 2 & 3/7)

Get that crowbar out again and lever off the wooden planks on the wall. In this hole is another set of Remains (4/7)

Once done, head back towards the Landing upstairs and use the Bedroom key on the door to the left. In this room you'll find the following:

Amulet of Blood (Occult Item 5/8)
Diary Page (4/5)
Ghost (hiding in the left-most wardrobe - 4/6)

Inside the chest on the right is the Pantry key. Open the chest using the following combination:

1006

You can now go back to the kitchen. Once there, use the Pantry key on the door to the left. Inside the Pantry will be the following:

Cup (3/5)

There is also a vent on the right hand wall. As usual, use your crowbar on it to reveal the Ocularium.

The puzzle in here is a simple, but tricky one. Guide the eyeball round the maze using your phones accelerometer. If you touch the wall you lose a life. Hit the wall 5 times and you'll have to restart. Once you're done you'll gain the Eyeball (Occult Item 6/8). Now, go back to the Pantry.

Once back in the Pantry, use your crowbar on the hatch in the floor and enter it. You'll be in another Cavern. In here you can collect the following:

Candle
Diary Page (5/5)
Orb (8/9) This orb has been removed from the game owing to the fixed bugged achievement.
Remains (there are 2 of these - 5 & 6/7)

This completes all of the diary pages.

You'll notice a large crack in the far wall. Enter it to reveal a Sacrificial Dagger (Occult Item 7/8) and some Remains (7/7). That's all of the Remains found!

Once you've done all of this, go back upstairs and into the Landing. Use the ladder that you picked up earlier, on the hatch in the ceiling and go up the ladder. You're now in the Attic. To the left is another chest. Open it with the following combination:

9385

Inside this will be your last red candle. This will complete the pentagram that is inscribed on the floor of the Attic, and a ghost will appear. Make sure you take a photo of said Ghost (5/6) before you leave.

Had enough of this house yet? Good, 'cos we're heading outside. Go back to the Kitchen and use the Backdoor key on the door to the right. This will bring you to the Conservatory. Here you can find the following:

Chair (4/5)
Cup (4/5)
Picture (9/10)
Orb (8/9)

This is where it starts to get slightly tricky. You'll need to click on the 3 shutters on the right hand wall, starting with the one farthest from you. See the images below for the completed sets. Be wary of the 3rd puzzle as it tends to be a little confusing. Don't hang around solving these for too long as it may upset any attempt you have going for the Speedy Solver achievement.

Puzzle 1:

Image 1

Puzzle 2:

Image 2

Puzzle 3:

Image 1

Once you have completed all 3 puzzles, the door to the left should now be open, which leads to the Garden. Here you can find the following (Note: Do NOT photograph the orb that appears over the table to the left as it will devoid your attempt at earning the Exorcist achievement. Instead, photograph the other items first. This bug has been fixed.):

Chair (5/5)
Cup (5/5)
Ghost (6/6)
Orb (9/9)

That should be all of the items for the Exorcist achievement collected.

Now, click on the grave that's behind the Shed to find the last of the Occult items, which is the Ring of Protection. You also need to click on the tree that is in the center of the garden (it's needed for the explorer achievement).

You can now enter the Shed. In here you'll find the last of the Pictures (10/10).

You should have 3 safe-like locks on the back wall. Clicking on each one will bring up a mini-game. Using your phone's accelerometer, tilt your phone until the small light switches to green, then hold it there for a few seconds. Once you've done all 3 locks, this should reveal the last of the chests. Open it using the combination:

5357

You'll now be in possession of the Front Door key. Freedom awaits! Head back to the Entry Hall, equip the Front Door key and click on the red arrow pointing downwards.

Hoorah! You've escaped without a single scratch, but I'm sure the mental repercussions are endless. As soon as you exit the house, you'll unlock the Explorer achievement.

And if you managed to do the whole thing in under 20 minutes, you'll receive the Speedy Solver achievement too. Not bad eh?

At some point during this guide you will have also unlocked the 2 score-related achievements. They will unlock as soon as you've reached 80,000 points (Spooky Score) and 100,000 (Super Spooky Score). For arguments sake I left these until last as they unlock at different points for different people. I wouldn't worry about these as they will both unlock throughout the storyline.

And in keeping with the Ghostly theme, I congratulate you thusly:

"Conglaturations !!!
You have completed a great game.
And prooved the justice of our culture.
Now go and rest our heroes !"
