God of War Ragnarok is filled with memorable characters, savage monsters, and some incredible, epic missions. With "The Lost Sanctuary" main mission being no different, players again take up control of Atreus, though he'll be called "Loki" most of the time. In this adventure, Atreus will meet a new friend and explore a secret forest while encountering a dark prophesy about his future.

Adding new abilities, gear, and knowledge, The Lost Sanctuary quest is yet another step in the epic world of God of War Ragnarok and starts to foreshadow the upcoming conflict Kratos and Atreus will have to face. Being a somewhat long quest with some confusing progress points along the way, the following is a go-to guide on completing the quest and finding loot, upgrades, and collectibles along the way.

Explore Ironwood

Follow Angrboda down the path, then Atreus will have the chance to spend some skill points. Shoot the first green shiny Soundstone inside the giant, hollowed-out tree. Continue down the path, shoot two more Soundstone barriers, and grab the gold chest on the left before climbing up the painted platform.

Next, crawl through a tight space and fight some Draugrs that spawn in the next area. Continue to the left and have Atreus open the red chest on the left before jumping across a gap. Fight off some Nightmares, head down the path until finding some green-tinted wooden boards to the right.

On the next platform, shoot the Soundstone that is only visible from the little cliff-side. It’s hidden across the way, inside the enormous tree and shooting it will expose the object that Atreus can use to swing across ahead. Open the gold chest ahead and jump and swing until finding a Legendary Chest on the right. Open it to find a Runic Summon for Atreus’ gear. The Rampaging Ibex, “summons a spectral ibex to ride and charge into enemies.” This works the same way as Kratos’ Heavy Runic Attacks with R2 + L1. Some of the upcoming fights can be difficult for Atreus so don’t forget to use this new ability often.

Follow the path, shoot the Soundstone hanging above, swing across, and jump down with Angrboda. Don’t miss the Soundstone hiding the gold chest to the right, up a small platform. Also, a hanging bucket is in this area that Atreus can shoot down for loot. Angrboda will reveal her battle paints and again, don’t forget to use her ability often, just as when playing as Kratos. Next, Atreus will race Angrboda down the path, over the giant medallion, and through the woods.

After fighting the Tatzelwurm enemies in the next area, shoot the hanging bucket and the green wooden boards for more loot. Also, another hanging bucket is up ahead, on the left side. Ahead, Angrboda is home and shows Atreus her cool hangout. Uncover the shrine to advance the mission and after the cutscene, it’s time for giant stuff.

Chores With Angrboda

Grab the animal food and meet Jalla. This portion of the quest will have Atreus and Angrboda riding Jalla to get through some swamp. Players will have to mix between jumping on and off of the beast at different points to progress. Hop on and steer Jalla off to the left by using R3 and L3. There are materials scattered around in golden glowing circles so make sure to explore this and all swamp areas well.

Greenbulbs

Push Jalla on and grab the Greenbulbs along the way. Next, jump off of Jalla onto a painted platform to the left. Before getting back in the water, shoot the enormous purple clam and grab the loot it drops on the way out. Hop off of Jalla onto another platform, grab the next Greenbulb, and continue until seeing some green wood.

Climb up the upcoming ledge. Then follow Angrboda and shoot the green wood from the other side to let Jalla through. On the next ledge, don’t miss the red chest before shooting another clam and jumping down into the water ahead. Put the bulbs in the bucket and open the ‘tool chest’ for some free Atreus upgrades. Players can also upgrade Atreus’ gear by returning to the tool chest throughout the mission.

Roots

Hop back onto Jalla and continue on. Angrboda will show Atreus how to properly collect the root samples before a cutscene leads to enemies spawning. Atreus’ final new fighting skill, turning into a giant wolf, is revealed, and it’s akin to Kratos’ Spartan Rage. He can use it by pressing L3 and R3 simultaneously and it heals Atreus when landing attacks.

Defeat the next two rounds of enemies, and crouch through the tunnel, grab the gold chest all the way to the left, and hop on Jalla to cross the bridge. Drop off the roots in the bucket and shoot the clam in front of Jalla before continuing down the path.

Elevator To Wulver Fight

Angrboda will ask Atreus to skip stones. Fight the next wave of enemies and skip stones until Jalla appears. Climb up the painted path ahead to the left and swing across the gap for the next Legendary Chest. Back on Jalla, continue along and in the section where there’s dry land, Atreus can hop off and grab the Jotunheim Fruit on the ground.

At the end of the canyon, go up the wooden elevator and fight through several rounds of enemies while following the white-painted symbols and Angrboda. After that, she’ll allow the passage up a key wall after fighting a Wulver. Head back to the elevator and take it down. Angrboda will tell Atreus that he can’t tell anyone about Ironwood and open a magic passage. Take the path to the left and shoot down the hanging bucket before moving on.

Wretch Dens

Climb into the sinkhole with Angrboda. Then attack the first Wretch den, an ugly green ant-hill-looking mound to the left. As Atreus makes his way through the cave, keep an eye out for torches for Angrboda to light, she can do this by pressing the Square button when highlighted over a torch. Grab the gold chest and destroy the enemies that spawn in the front room. On the path ahead, keep to the left and a red chest will leadto the 2nd Wretch den. It’s slightly elevated, so use Atreus’ arrows to take it out.

Another wave of enemies will spawn ahead. Follow the white symbols down the path and continue to fight and light torches. Keep moving until seeing a gold chest with green Soundstone next to it. Before doing anything, take the path to the far left and climb the platforms. This is the location of the 3rd Wretch den.

Wretch Dens Part 2

Go back and shoot the Soundstone to unlock a shortcut in the cave. Instead of jumping down though, take the path to the left where there’s a broken up wooden bridge. The path will split with some Soundstone going left. Take the right path first and jump down to the second Legendary Chest, which has another Accessory for Atreus’ build. Jump back up and fight the enemies that spawn. Going forward, stick to the left side and Atreus will spot some Soundstone down towards the end. It’s through a small hole in the wall, on his right side.

Shoot it with an arrow and around the corner, Atreus will find the 4th and final Wretch den. After that, crouch with Angrboda back towards the entrance. A Bergsra, which spawns Wretches, will be waiting on the other side. After the fight, climb the rope in the center of the sinkhole. Hop back onto Jalla and continue through the water until stopping at a white symbol. Shoot the clam in the distance before getting back on Jalla to collect the loot.

Big Gryla’s House

Keep following Angrboda until a large group of enemies spawns. Before going inside the giant, hollowed-out tree, jump up the white platform just to the left. This will give Atreus an angle to shoot the Soundstone where the tree is and clear the path forward. Similarly, Atreus will find the next platform gives another angle on another set of Soundstone blocking the way. Shoot it down and climb through the hole, again. After fighting another Wulver, follow Angrboda and grab the red chest on the left side before moving on.

In the next area, climb up and get an angle to shoot some Soundstone inside a large cage, hanging from the ceiling. Angrboda will make the way for Atreus to progress. Keep following her into the enormous kitchen. Hit the prompt to open the door and head down the giant steps. Soundstone will block the way. Just before seeing a hanging bucket to shoot, take the path behind, turning around then going left. Down that passage, look left and shoot the Soundstone before going back. After the cutscene, head back up the stairs, the way Atreus came in and hit the prompt to close the door.

Gryla Fight

God of War Ragnarok atreus and gryla

Gryla will trigger a cutscene and right after Atreus frees the wolf, jump across to attack Gryla’s cauldron. This will begin the fight with Gryla, Angroboda’s grandma, and unlike Atreus and Angrboda, she’s as tall as a building. Players can review a comprehensive guide on fighting Gryla by clicking here.

So after taking out grandma’s favorite cookware, follow Angrboda back to her hangout. She’ll race Atreus in wolf form on a magical fox to lighten the mood. Finish the quest by hitting the button prompt on the covered prophecy painting and sending Atreus back home.
