Gary man sues to keep BMV branch open

GARY, Ind. (AP) - A Lake County Commissioner is suing the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles to keep the state from closing a license branch in northwest Indiana next week.

Democrat Rudy Clay says the decision by the state to close the Gary branch is politically motivated.

Merrillville lawyer Dock McDowell Jr. filed a request in circuit court, hoping for an injunction that will keep the Gary BMV branch open.

BMV Commissioner Joel Silverman has said the state has too many license branches. So far, the state has announced plans to close 21 branches.
