From 163cm to 180cm: German model spends N74m on leg-lengthening surgery

A German model, Theresia Fischer, has undergone two surgeries to increase her height from 163cm (5 feet) to 180cm (6 feet).

Theresia Fischer underwent two operations to insert adjustable telescopic rods into her tibia, adding an extra 5.5 inches to her height.

The 31-year-old’s total surgery cost was $124,000 (N57,110,680), but medications and physical therapy bumped her total bill up to $161,000 (N74,151,770) — all of which she paid with the modelling checks she hopes will increase after her procedures.

The leg-lengthening procedure is a painful process in which a doctor breaks the femur in each of a patient’s legs and inserts extendable metal nails.

The nails are gradually expanded by one millimetre every day over the next three months — eventually making the recovered patient several inches taller.

According to GQ, the procedure also entails a lengthy recovery process that includes relentless pain that stretches the nerves, muscles, and tissue of the legs to an almost excruciating degree.
