Former Eagles front office exec Tom Gamble resurfaces with the Jacksonville Jaguars – NBC Sports Philadelphia
Former Eagles front office executive Tom Gamble has resurfaced with the Jaguars, new general manager Trent Baalke announced Thursday.
Gamble, a Haddonfield High School graduate, has served two separate stints in the Eagle’s front office and most recently was in the NFL with the 49ers through 2017.
Baalke, who worked with Gamble with the 49ers, announced that Gamble had joined the Jags’ office during a press conference Thursday where Baalke was introduced as the Jaguars’ new general manager.
“Tom is already down here on the staff and working,” he said.
Asked what Gamble’s title will be, he said: “Right now he’s just within the department. The title thing, I’ve never been a big title guy. We’ll figure all of that out. I think the key is the value he brings to this organization, the value he brings to myself in knowing Tom and working alongside him as long as I have. I trust him, I respect him and I’m just working forward to working with him again.
Gamble first joined the Eagles’ front office in the late 1980s under his dad, Harry Gamble, who was Penn’s football coach from 1971 through 1980 before joining Dick Vermeil’s coaching staff in 1981.
Harry Gamble moved into the Eagles' front office in 1983 and by 1985 he had become owner Norman Braman’s most valued confidant and held the dual titles of general manager and team president for most of the next decade.
Tom Gamble got his start under his father but went on to have a long career in scouting with several teams and rejoined the Eagles as vice president of player personnel in February of 2013, soon after Chip Kelly was named head coach. Gamble was fired by the Eagles after the 2014 season before joining Baalke and being briefly reunited with Kelly in San Francisco.
Gamble has not had an NFL job since the 49ers fired him in February of 2017, after John Lynch replaced Baalke. He spent some time on Jim Harbaugh’s staff at Michigan in 2017 and was a scout for the CFL Montreal Alouettes this past year.
Tom Gamble starred in baseball at Haddonfield High and at High Point (N.C.) College. His son Tommy played baseball at Moorestown High and was a Phillies’ draft pick in 2014.
