‘Forgive us’: Ufuoma McDermott apogizes to former GWR cook-a-thon holder, Chef Lata, she replies
Nigerian actress, Ufuoma Stacey McDermott, has tendered an apology to the former Guinness World Record cook-a-thon holder, Indian chef Lata Tondon, on behalf of Nigerians.
Lata Tondon’s 87-hour cook-a-thon record was broken by Nigerian chef Hilda Effiong Bassey, aka Hilda Baci on May 15, 2023, after cooking for 100 hours.
During Hilda Baci’s cook-a-thon event to break the GWR for the longest cooking hours, a lot of Nigerians took to Chef Lata’s socials to gloat over Hilda’s anticipated victory.
In a lengthy statement on her Instagram page, Ufuoma McDermott apologized to Lata and complimented her for opening the path for many young women to follow in her footsteps.
The actress mentioned how Chef Lata lit a torch to illuminate a path, which is now visible to many.
Despite Lata having her “crown” taken away, Ufuoma emphasized that she will always be regarded as the first woman to hold the record.
She hailed the chef as an inspiration and enjoined her to continue speaking to young people about their aspirations.
