Cristiano Ronaldo wins penalty but gets referee to overturn decision in incredible act of sportsmanship

Cristiano Ronaldo produced an incredible act of sportsmanship as he told the referee to overturn a penalty he initially won for Al Nassr.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner appeared to have given his side a great chance take the lead in their AFC Champions League clash when he went down in the box and referee Ma Ning pointed to the spot.

Players from Iranian outfit Persepolis surrounded the man in the middle as they protested against the decision.

They found a surprise ally in Ronaldo, who had a quiet word with Ning to inform him that he had not been challenged unfairly by Persepolis Soroush Rafiei.

The referee then went on to review his decision and overturn it.

Ronaldo will be commended for his act of sportsmanship, although it's one he may have rued as Al Nassr were unable to break down Persepolis with the game finishing goalless.

However, it should be noted that Al Nassr have a five-point lead at the top of their group with one match left after this round of fixtures.

The match wasn't without incident after the penalty drama with Al Nassr defender Ali Lajami seeing red after just 17 minutes.

Ronaldo has three goals in the AFC Champions League this season, 18 in all competitions.

Cristiano Ronaldo waved off his own penalty against Persepolis, telling the referee himself he didn't believe it was a foul. 👀

Not something you see every day in football. 👏
