But Amanda also wants people to know how important the community support for her family means to her.
She said that support reminds her of Jason the most.
"I think it reflects who Jason was and the kind of person he was,” Amanda Crisp said. “I think it shows with everybody who is here. He was not just a law enforcement officer. He was a friend."
There was a moment of silence announced in Burke and McDowell counties just before 3 p.m. to coincide with the time when Crisp was killed.
In 2014, Crisp was honored by the Forest Service for his display of bravery and commitment to uphold public safety.
His name was added to a memorial at the Burke County Courthouse.
North Carolina lawmakers also approved renaming a ranger station in Nebo the Jason Crisp Forest Service Building.
