Blue Ridge Energy lineman working to restore power in multiple NC counties – WSOC TV

CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — Hours after high winds and strong storms hit the Carolinas, multiple counties are still left in the dark.

According to a release from Blue Ridge Energy, over 7,400 people lost power because of Saturday’s strong winds that brought down trees, damaging power lines in the area. The energy company said their employees worked through the night and made their way through multiple locations.

Ashe County suffered the most damage, with 70 different locations having downed trees and damaged power lines. Over 2,000 people lost power around 5:30 on Saturday morning. As of Sunday morning, only 18 people are without power. In Alleghany County, 22 places saw large amounts of damage and over 2,000 residents lost power on Saturday Crews restored power to a majority of the county, and on Sunday only four people were without power.

Watauga County took a hard hit and had 43 areas that saw a lot of damage which caused over 1,200 residents to lose power around 9 a.m. on Saturday morning. The power was fully restored in the county by 5:52 a.m. on Sunday.

In Caldwell County, over 40 locations saw damage which impacted almost 2,100 residents beginning around noon on Saturday. As of Sunday, linemen are still working to restore power to the last four customers in the county.
