49ers lineman collapses, dies after preseason NFL game

DENVER (AP) -- An offensive lineman for the San Francisco 49ers has died after a preseason game in Denver. First-year player Thomas Herrion collapsed in the locker room last night shortly after the team's 26-to-21 loss to the Broncos. Medics administered CPR on Herrion before he was rushed to a hospital. But three hours later, the team confirmed he had died. The cause of death isn't known yet. The 6’3” 310-pound Herrion was 23. The 49ers call his death a "colossal tragedy." Players were at the airport on the way back to San Francisco when they got word of Herrion's death. Defensive lineman Marques Douglas says nobody saw anything happen to him. Douglas says he just sat by his locker and prayed for Herrion.
